As always there are more pics on my moblog!!

Ayson Hannigan to star in new comedy

Seems sweet willow is set to star in a sitcom directed by Friends star Ross (David Scwimmer) titled "Home & Hardware."

"Alyson Hannigan ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") stars in the comedy, which revolves around the relationship between two siblings, a workaholic ex-dork older sister (Hannigan) and her slacker brother, both single, who haven't spoken in 18 months."

Megalomania attack

As is obvious I´ve been fiddling with my page, so now the question remains "HOW" over the top do you think it is? Comments and remarks appreciated ;-)

Typical morning in the Gunnella household

SO I wake up to a typicly weird, survivoresque dream involving spiders, ex co workers, freezing cold, stealing and an artist second cousin whom I haven´t heard of in years ::? The kids are playing mess the room, judging by the room they´ve been awake for a while ;-) Scramble to the washing room for clean underwear and clothes for them. Scramble back realizing I forgot tights for Elena. Shower, unusally this five minute "my time" is only interrupted twice with a teery eyed story of how her brother sat in her chair (she´s an expert on teary eyedness) and then the second one a protestation of innocence, apparently there had been a bionicle man in the chair, hence it was his. Shout for the kids to stop arguing and start serving sour milk (it´s a yogurt type stuff with a foul name) and brown sugar..
o.k. this is boring..
it´s just amazing how much work gets done in the thirty or fourty minutes from waking up until getting back home after walking them to school. Making sure Ragnar has cream on his hands and nose (frost dryness), brushing Elenas hair and plaiting it, making sandwiches, finding swimwear (swimming is a compulsary subject here), making Ragnar change from his *cool* coat to a wintersuit and from his wellies to his winterboots, telling Elena for the third time "no" she may not bring toys to playschool, making sure everything is in Ragnars pencilcase and that he has lead in his pencil.
Then after having accompanied them , returning home to this pure silence....and then the biggest challenge of all!!!
Resisting the temptation of my big comfy bed ;-) And instead blogging a bit before finishing my Sakubun and running off to school myself.

This homeyness seems so far removed from my character

Dragons galore

A recently taken photograph shows a fake baby dragon encased in a 30 inch (0.76 metres) jar which was discovered by David Hart in a garage in Oxfordshire, southern England. A metal tin found alongside the dragon contained paperwork written in an old-fashioned German style of the 1890s, a time when there was intense rivalry between scientists in Germany and Britain. The documents suggest that Britain's Natural History Museum turned the dragon away and sent it to be destroyed, only for the jar to be intercepted by David Hart's grandfather, Frederick Hart, who worked as a porter.

Funny Photographers ;-)

A great collection of photographers in action ;-) I loved these, hope you do too. (ps. all too often did I see myself in some of these ;-)

The Last Samurai

Went to see the Last Samurai yesterday, now there´s a great film if ever !! And it didn´t star any of the actors from the LOTR trilogy...*big wide eyes* imagine that. The three films advertised before the film actually started all had LOTR actors in them.... someone cashing in on their celebrity status..?

The film surpriced me in as much as I didn´t expect them to be some correct nor appreciative of Japanese thought and ways. The scenes, the houses, the village was beautifully rendered and the sword scenes were a pure pleasure..? The strongest scenes were those in silence, imbued with meaning but devoid of words. For once the Americans managed to make a whole movie without a single sex scene, there were three extremely erotic scenes but the eroticism lay in the air, the eyes not in plain old humping. The contrast between the old and the new was nicely portrayed and amazingly enough, not once did anyones acting bother me.... Billy Connolly was perfectly cast as the old loyal war veteran, jolly seeming but preceptive. Watanabe excuded dignity all the way and Cruise managed the dirty ;-) bedraggled, disheartened westerner.

Now the minor things that irritated me were kinda typical for me I guess.... Hey you have a village and a group of samurai that have fought together for centuries/generations and still they all look way different, facial hair growth differs, eyes and cheekbones vary from kyushu, to Hokkaido down to Okinawa... it was slightly too family Cosby for my taste.
Then there was the minor matter of Matsumoto placing this dirty foreigner, of a race known to be dubious at best in the house with his sister in law. Where she now lived all alone due to Aldren having killed her husband.. This in a society where womens status was low and hence advantage was easly taken and much abused..? Somehow doesn´t quite ring true does it.

All in all a great movie :D wouldn´t have missed it for the world !!

Algren: Then you will obey it.
Zebulon Gant: No offense Captain, but shove it up your arse.

Singaporeans Urged to Act Like Monkeys

I love Mondays
(ps. anyone notice how irritatingly happy I´ve been for the past few days :-/ ?)

Having arrived early today I sat in the centre (the centre being an open space from which one can enter the five movie theatres used as lecturing halls) and pretended to study ;-) As I sat there I met an aunt, who´s only six years older than me, whom I haven´t met for over four years :-) I met a fellow MH student with whom I used to study for my statistics exam and I met Gunna, a childhood friend from accross the street who´s here heading for her masters degree. (Hey how else to use your maternity leave ;-)

This is one of the two reasons for which I moved back to Reykjavík !!

1) meeting people, being able to walk down Laugarvegur and see at least 2 or three familiar faces, seeing as I´ve lived here all my life :-D this sense of familiarity and of belonging. Sappy I know.

2) Then number two is exemplified by last weekend, On Friday night I went out to a beer evening with my fellow Japanese students, drinking, playing pool and gleefully chatting in English and Japanese. Then come Saturday I had an exam on folklore and Archaeology “in English” mind u, after which I was invited to lunch by a fellow student for whom I´d translated and whom I´d given a copy of my notes for the course. He´s Italian with a limited knowledge of English hence the help :-) At his house (he lives in a kind of dormitory) everyone was kinda gathered in the kitchen and Spanish and Italian were being spoken back and forth without any difficulty :-D

So what I obviously need to blossom, o.k. thrive ;-) Is a multicultural environment that is still familiar :-) That´s not asking too much is it? ;-)

Ahhh I also had a epiphany.....
Life is not a destination but a journey ...

Great day in the snow :-D

Today was exactly as Sundays should be, :-) lazy morning, easy lunch and then off to the slopes!! (The slopes in this case being the drive up to the school court yard) The sled was dug out and the kids clad in as many layers of clothes as would fit inside the snowsuits ;-)
Up there we met up with a family whose son attends the same playschool as Elena and after a fun filled afternoon ended up going over to their house for waffles, then came computer talk resaulting in a new blog... the kids exstatic having been fed popcorn and Trópí, so we didn´t leave there until around six.....
At the end of the day I hadn´t done any of the things I "should" have done today, i.e. washing, kithen, .. excetra but the day was perfect :-D
Hope yours was as good!

More pictures here as usual ;-)

Japanese beer evening and exams

Had the greatest time on Friday night, admittingly I should have been at home deeply engrossed in the various articles for the archaeology and folklore exam the following morning. But free beer? It was too good to pass up. :-D The japanese students met up at Gaukur á Stöng, a place I knew of old (well what would YOU call ten years ago?) but has changed dramatically since then. We were upstairs in a very spacious and well lit area filled with pool tables as well as a gigantic screen ..... The gigantic screen part was for those forlorne fanatical followers of the Icelandic Idol.. Apparently the final episode was happening right there and then so I can now say I managed to catch one episode ;-)
The evening was great the company greater and I managed not to over overindulge in my drinking ;-P So now I avidly await the pictures, or at least I think I do ;-)

The exam the following morning went very well as well, I´m not saying it couldn´t have gone better but I knew the answer to all but one question ( Or I think I knew ;-) now I need to finish one paper on the subject and then that course is over.

Thought provokin e-mail I got, albeit old it still has a good point or three ;-)

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her Radio show. On her radio show recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura, penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as thought provoking. ******************************************

Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination... End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

4. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2.The passage clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

5. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

6. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

7. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

8. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes meunclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

9. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two ifferent kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Fun, albeit illicit, quotes heard on the tube

Can this be true ?

According to Dr. Phil, a tv show that?s on here late at night, five children die every day in the States from gun shot wounds???

Kama sutra for couples

"Men; don't be afraid! Get your woman in front of the computer! I "

A very interesting site containing the quote above.... he he hows that for romanticism ;-) ?
Below there are really interesting scriptures includin this one which made me think....( yeah it actually happens occasionally ;-)

A girl should be taken as a wife, as also given in marriage, when fortune, signs, omens, and the words3 of others are favourable, for, says Ghotakamukha, a man should not marry at any time he likes. A girl who is asleep, crying, or gone out of the house when sought in marriage, or who is betrothed to another, should not be married. The following
also should be avoided:

· One who is kept concealed
· One who has an ill-sounding name
· One who has her nose depressed
· One who has her nostril turned up
· One who is formed like a male
· One who is bent down
· One who has crooked thighs
· One who has a projecting forehead
· One who has a bald head
· One who does not like purity
· One who has been polluted by another
· One who is affected with the Gulma4
· One who is disfigured in any way
· One who has fully arrived at puberty
· One who is a friend
· One who is a younger sister
· One who is a Varshakari5

And the last part .... When a girl becomes marriageable her parents should dress her smartly, and should place
her where she can be easily seen by all.

So what´s a depressed nose and an upturned nostril?????? Any ideas or suggestions?

Tory the island kingdom

Those of you following this blog may be aware of the fact that I´m taking this really interesting week long archaeology slash folklore course. Well I´m thoroughly enjoying it :-D It is remarkably invigorating being back in the folklore environment and fun meeting the professors and teachers. Admittingly it has brought to front the minor issue of my thesis, seeing as everyone I meet here asks me where I´ve been and what I´ve been studying, all these people have had such high expectations of me and here I am .... and haven´t even finished my Ba :-/

Anyways to get back on track, Tok told us today of an island off the coast of Ireland caled Tory. Apparently this would be the last kingdom in Ireland seeing as this tiny island community sports a king, recognizable by his gold earring ;-). His name is Patsy Dan and as well as being king he´s a musician, an artist and always greets women visitors to the island with a kiss ;-) The inhabitants claim to be descendants of the mythical sea faring Fomorians and not be a part of Ireland, and as such defy the authorities by not paying taxes.
This Gaelic speaking island has been inhabited since the earliest times and is rich in archaeological and monastic sites, including Balor's Fort (Dún Bhalair) on the east of the island which takes it's name from 'Balor of the Evil Eye', a celtic mythological figure. The islands shape is supposed to be of him (didn´t quite catch th exact term) and looking at the form of the island one can see Balors form. From right to left head, belly ... ;-) something sticking into the air (must say Toks artistic renderings gave Balor more credit ;-) and his feet.
Well I was infatuated :-) (By the island not the.... you irritatingly predictably perverted ones !! ;-)

Lord Of The Ring Of Fire

On a rambling late night note....halfway through The Return of the King I figured out that the entire Lord of the Rings saga is an allegory for pregnancy.

Seriously, check it out. You got your Frodo and your Sam, trudging to the Crack of Doom, right? And that's about as apt a description for pregnancy as you're likely to find: nine months of trudging to Mordor. (Fun fact: "trudging to Mordor" was euphemism they used on I Love Lucy before they could say "pregnant" on the air!)

But only one person is the appointed bearer. And that poor sap has to carry the burden the entire way, a burden that just gets heavier and heavier as the weeks wear on. The bearer gets increasingly tired and cranky as they approach their destination -- and who can blame them? Their good-for-nothing companion doesn't do anything useful, except flit about and say things like "jeeze, I wish I could carry the burden for a while!" and occasionally fight off an enormous spider and/or fetch chocolate ice cream.

But as bad as the journey is, it's the ending that truly sucks: the agony of carrying the burden is nothing compared to letting it go. The bearer gets all, like, "I can't do it, it's impossible!" and the companion stands around heming and hawing and lamely asserting "you can do it!". And then, out of nowhere, a creepy-looking bald-headed creature comes onto the scene.

o.k. perhaps It´t just about time for bed ;-P

Fun quotes realted to sexual persuasion

- Ellen DeGeneres

"We had gay burglars the other night. They broke in and rearranged the furniture."
- Robin Williams

You are Form 0, Phoenix: The Eternal.

"And The Phoenix's cycle had reached zenith, so he consumed himself in fire. He emerged from his own ashes, to be forever immortal."

Some examples of the Phoenix Form are Quetzalcoatl (Aztec), Shiva (Indian), and Ra-Atum (Egyptian).
The Phoenix is associated with the concept of life, the number 0, and the element of fire.
His sign is the eclipsed sun.

As a member of Form 0, you are a determined individual. You tend to keep your sense of optimism, even through tough times and have a positive outlook on most situations. You have a way of looking at going through life as a journey that you can constantly learn from. Phoenixes are the best friends to have because they cheer people up easily.

Now I attended that very same school many many ...o.k. many years ago and started wondering what the same page would have said about me ;-) At least he speaks kindly about thos I know , i.e. Kolbrún and Silvía...although I think there might be a person or two missing..thought Svava went there as well :-/ hummmm

He he.... weblog awards... ? Already voted and u ;-P ?

Oh what a beautiful mooorning, oh what a beautiful day, I´ve got......

It´s shaping up to be an excellent day :-D! It´s only nine o´clock and though I admittedly woke up with cold and sinusitis that´s mere physical stuff ;-)
So why the good mood..? I don´t really know... The kids were really good about getting up, giving me a hug (Elena) and a kiss (Ragnar) as they woke up. Ragnar prepaired breakfast for the two of them whilst I spent fifteen minutes removing the dreads from Elenas hair resaulting in her now sporting a very blond and very soon to be gone afro ;-)

Walking Elena to playschool was a pleasure, there´s a completely full moon, the wind has died down and there is an apparent increase in temperature. I finally said hi to the gorgeous dressmaker whose work-shop we pass each morning. I´m really looking forward to class at eleven and until then I have Anne Rice to keep me company, courtesy of Svava :-D was even contemplating the solarium but think I´ll keep that until after school. Sound weird with all the cancer conciousness that abounds? Well imagine living in a cold northern country, where one hardly sees any sun around this time of year. Let me rephrase, you get a bit of daylight but no sun. And then being able, for ten minutes just to experience pure warmth and light :-D Ahhh I´m definitevly going this afternoon!

Catch you guys later :-) Marius and Amadeo await my company ;-P

First day of school

I am so incredibly knackered !!! School started today and I´ve gone and done something stupid as usual ;-) I´ve signed up for a week long course worth three units (6 ects) which would be nice if it weren´t for the fact that I´m also starting my full time japanese course as well..... Need one of them watches from Dumbeldore, or a piece of kryptonite (o.k. so I´m a bit too into pop culture) so as to be able to be in two places at once.... oh well it´s only a week and the course is really interesting, all about the correlation between archaeology and folklore...and interesting mesh of people there as well... heightened emotions as two schools of thought met ;-) ahhh life is so much fun "innit"?

Now here´s an upcoming reality tv show that´ll possibly even further evolve the genre of "reality" tv... They´re calling it "surreal life" .. hum isn´t that what we´ve had all along..? so whats new...ah yes the possibility of getting away with more stuff on tv ;-)

Man Lives as ‘Black’ for 50 Years — Then Finds Out He’s Probably Not

Wayne Joseph, the principal of a big suburban high school in southern California, had an unequivocal sense of his black heritage, having written extensively about race in America. But after seeing a TV story last April about a Florida company, DNA Print Genomics, which marketed an ancestry-by-DNA test, he began to wonder exactly how much of him was African, how much wasn't, and what else there might be in his genes.

And it read, 57 percent Indo-European, 39 percent Native American, 4 percent East Asian and 0 percent African.

Can you imagine????

Our birthday is the twentieth of April

These people all share the same birthday ;-) wonder if perusing their blogs I´ll find some sort of common thread, mayhaps my madness is purely a matter of when I was born :-P

Ingrid Jones - Bob Sawyer - Jesse Hamilton - Nicole - James Little - Kate

Or perhaps not .....Personally I think they´re saner ;-) What do you think?

On a funner note ;-) I realize that´s not actually a word, The kids are home again :D

Managed to sort through their room whilst they were away and they were indeed suitably impressed upon returning ! ;-) Elena came home with extremely cute dreadlocks ;-) the funny thing is that her hair is so striped, a la Icelandic kids, i.e. ranging from extremely blond to brunette resaulting in striped dreads ;-P Scarily high cuteness factor....
